A do-nothing, eat-everything Christmas Day

From my prone position, I watch a cluster of tiny finches dipping and diving in the shallow waters at the edge of the pool, while one-by-one white herons casually glide overhead. A glorious three to four hours of doing nothing is punctuated by long chatty phone calls with family back home and scrolling through friend’s Christmas posts on Instagram and Facebook – adding a few of my own to the mix. My imagination come to life

A turtle dove suddenly began cooing outside my door, followed by a gecko tut-tutting from the corner of the ceiling. At 6.00 am, the first rays of sunlight began peeking from under my curtains. Flinging them back, I lay in bed and watched the colours change across the horizon – purples, reds, and yellows transitioning into a stark blue-blue sky, the jungle forest below glistening with the morning dew.
